Finally I have my solo show up and running. My quilts have traveled to exhibitions in Italy, France, Finland, Latvia, United Kingdom, Canada and USA but they haven’t be exhibited here in Lithuania. Well, not until today.
Today through November 18 I have 21 of my quilts exhibited at Siauliai public library: http://www.savb.lt/lt/
It is a very nice space and the library’s personnel was very helpful. They had all tools required for hanging quilts:
They also had frames and framed the photos:
Why photos? Because part of this show is a collection of quilts, called Water Marks, that were inspired by photos of water, taken by my friend Rita Ruskyte. Her photos were amazing!
Water does not have a shape or color but in Rita’s photos water has it as well as it has a movement. I made 8 water quilts and I am going to make more in the future. I took a challenge not to use any other technique except machine piecing and curved piecing. I didn’t try to recreate the photo, only to catch colors, shapes and lines:
For this quilt I used only a segment of original Rita’s photo:
The original photo:
My eyes are so used to my quilts that they don’t make a big impression on me anymore but I was told by visitors of the show that they truly enjoyed them.
Here are some more pictures of a display:
I have a meeting with Siauliai public scheduled on November 14th and will write more then. Come back!
